Lockwoods Butchers Ltd started
trading around the middle of the 1940's, when meat
was still on ration, opening a series of butcher's
shops, in and around the Liverpool area.
In the early 1950's we purchased a small
factory in the Broadgreen area of Liverpool. We
soon started production of our own brand of pork
and beef sausages. After a short while we also
produced a range of cooked meats, however, the
premises at Broadgreen became too
small.
Around 1957 we moved to larger
premises in Boaler Street, Liverpool and soon we
had our own salesmen delivering in Liverpool and
the surrounding areas. The brand name 'Olympia'
came from the Olympic Cinema that once stood in
Boaler street.
Once again production grew
and we moved to an ex Walls ice cream depot in
Melrose Road, Kirkdale. The trade in sausages was
now at a tremendous height.
In February
1960, the company name was changed to Lockwoods
(Liverpool) Limited. At this time the premises in
Melrose Road Liverpool were fast becoming
unsuitable, once again there was a need for new
premises. The company then decided to change the
sales force to franchised agents, as exists today.
In September 1964 the company moved into
purpose built new premises in Bridle Way, Bootle
and has remained there to this day. The present
factory has been continually updated and carries a
full E.C license. The company has over thirty van
salesmen agents delivering in an area stretching
across the North, Midlands and North Wales.
Currently we produce a wide range of fresh and
frozen sausages, cooked meat products and baked
pies.
We look forward to the challenges of
the next 50 years, with our products based as they
always have been, on traditional quality meats and
recipes, using the best that modern technology and
standards can bring to them.
